Sampdoria's L'enfant terrible Antonio Cassano has laid out his carpet to welcome his good friend David Beckham to Serie A.
Cassano and Beckham were both formely teammates at Real Madrid. They did not learnt Spanish at the start and Cassano revealed that Beckham only learnt some choice words.
“We just swore in Spanish!” he said.
“We had a good rapport at the time we played together at Real,” Sampdoria star Cassano told Sky Sport Italia.
“I can say that, aside from just a marketing phenomenon, we are talking about a great player here.
“I played alongside him and can say that for certain. Beckham will surely do very well at Milan, because he can interpret all of the midfield roles perfectly.”
Cassano is well known as the locker room joker and reveals some intriguing anecdotes about their time together in Madrid.
“In three years there David never spoke Spanish. Like me at the start, before I got to learn the language, all he knew how to say were swearwords!
“When he arrived in the morning for training I – who always have to bother someone – would often play a few jokes on him and he played along. He’s got a good sense of humour.”
The feeling is mutual, as Beckham spoke of Cassano when he first arrived in Italy to sign the contract with Milan.
“I’ve spoken to [Fabio] Cannavaro and with Fabio Capello. I haven’t talked to Cassano yet, but he is great fun, makes me laugh, has a wonderful heart and is very generous.
“He did very well at Real Madrid, then took a step back to return to the country he loves and adores.”
